Cancer is considered a challenge that our immune system faces throughout its work. As long as our liver progresses, the risk of acquiring cancer increases. One of the main responsibilities of our immune system is to fight and eliminate center cells. In the following article, we will discuss the basic mechanisms by which our immune system fights cancer.

Is having cancer cells a rare event?

In fact, developing cancer cells can be considered a daily process. Somebody cells lose control over their division due to exposure to toxins, radiation, or chemicals. Once these abnormal cells lose control over their division, it expresses some molecules recognized by the immune system and starts to fight the coup. The development of clinical cancer or a tumor or a lump is considered a failure of the immune system to deal with this abnormal behavior of the cells. Immunotherapy aims to build more muscles in your immune system to make it more capable of fighting cancer.


How does our immune system fight cancer cells?

Fighting cancer cells in our body depend mainly on the action of the cellular part of the immune system. Many types of cells in our immune system are specialized in fighting and killing cancer cells(check more about the immune system ). The primary cell, called the T cell, detects cancer cells by direct contact and eliminates it through two different mechanisms. The T cells press a special button on the surface of the cancer cells called the death receptors. Once pressed, the cancer cells started to commit suicide. The other mechanism is carried out by forming holes inside the walls of cancer cells through which tiny molecules secreted by the T cells can enter the interior of cancer cells and burst from inside.  


Can our immune system betray our body?

The function of the immune system is to protect our body from internal or external threats; however, in some situations, cancer may use our immune system to protect its growth. Some cancers use the immune system to protect their own growth by recruiting some types of cells that secrete a substance that inhibits the immune cells' function. These inhibitory cells are located normally in our body and perform a critical role in maintaining the process of destruction initiated by the immune system under control.

Our immune system protects our body from cancer almost every minute. Unfortunately times cancer cells may use our immune system to support their growth.
